And I was raised in VA by a Musical Wizard of a Mom. My Mom is truly one of the best Pianists I know. You can set about any piece of sheet music in front of her, and she can play it without ever having seen it before.
So as you'd expect, I took piano lessons from age 5 to about age 13, and honestly, I hated it. I learned all these random songs using sheet music, but it was never the style that I wanted to learn. I wanted to learn Pop-Punk. Relient K & Yellowcard were the bands I liked at the time. And Sheet Music was definitely not helping me get there. After 8 years of learning piano with sheet music, I still didn't know how to play piano. I couldn't Improvise. I couldn't sing & play. And I definitely couldn't play pop-punk.
I was fed up, and my Mom knew it, so she let me choose a different instrument to learn. I opted with guitar and she signed me up for guitar lessons with a Berklee graduate. He was the first one to teach me Music Theory, & the Number System.
I was hooked. Within about 6 Months, I had started a band, taught myself Piano, and was well on my way to becoming a well-rounded musician.
I don't want you to go through the 8 years of pain that I did trying to learn Music with Sheet Music. That's why I created the Music Academy.

After only 4 Weeks playing Piano. Paul was already playing music fluidly. Paul had NEVER touched a keyboard 4 weeks prior to this video. Not a bad start.
Week 8
Paul was already figuring out some of his favorite songs just 2 months into the program. This is a video of him playing "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley.
Week 12
By Week 12, Paul was already writing his own music. Paul created this tune simply based off what he learned in the Music Academy.
Week 20
At Week 20, Paul was beecoming incredibly proficient on Piano. He was writing his own tunes and using a lot of creative Rhythms to spice up his playing.
Week 24
In 6 months, Paul fully understands the keyboard, and now plays with creativity both within his chord progressions as well as his rhythmatic choices.
Ryan started off well, very quickly getting a good feel for inversions and smooth chording.
Week 16
3 Months in, Ryan was already playing with 7th Chords really smoothly. This allows him to play Jazz progressions only after 16 weeks of learning hte piano!
Week 20
By Week 20, Ryan was able to play some of his favorite songs. Even musically complex songs like "Find Me Somebody to Love" by Queen.
Week 24
By Week 24, Ryan can play any of his favorite tunes, and he continues to develop his skills as a pianist as he learns more and more songs.
Whitney started off well, getting a good understanding of Music Theory and the Number System, but still had a ways to go with her hand coordination.
Week 4
Whitney began to play octaves in her left hand and her transitions from chord to chord were getting much more seemless.
Week 6
After just 6 weeks, Whitney was already beginning to play smoothly and even sing along with her playing!
But more importantly, she understands the theory behind what she's playing.
Week 10
At Week 10, Whitney was learning inversions, making her Chord Transitions even more smooth.

Week 14
At Week 14, Whitney is able to play in multiple keys on the Piano, she understands how Music works, and she's now able to figure out songs as she's inpired to play.
